Santiago at 50

Casey and I arrived in Santiago today. It was a memorable way to celebrate my 50th birthday. I have already been serenaded with “Happy Birthday” sung to me at both the albergue this morning and at the cafe this afternoon. Tonight we are joining several friends we have met along the way for dinner. At this point I am glad to be here, but feel totally drained. Casey struggled with her feet again today and the last few kilometers were taken one painful step at a time. I hurt for her, and was proud of her at the same time, as we made our way into the city and up to the cathedral. Luckily churros, hot chocolate and a beer have somewhat revived her.
Our plan now is to spend tomorrow in Santiago. We will take a sleeper train to Madrid tomorrow night where we spend a couple of days before flying home on Sunday.
